Are Walls Bad?
Are walls bad? That is the question that we will be discussing today. I think that it's fair to say that people see walls differently, especially a very specific wall: the wall on the Mexican-American border. Some believe that the wall is bad, racist, or even evil. Others see the wall as protection to guard against a lot of evil people who are coming in and who are bringing in very destructive things, primarily drugs; they see the walls and borders simply as things that make a country a country.
While I would be on the side that believes that walls are generally good, I will concede some things to those that would be on the other side of the fence. First of all, clearly walls are not always a good thing! There are a couple of walls that are very bad, but they aren't physical. Have you ever known someone, or maybe you were the person that got hurt and you or this person you loved put up walls? They didn't want anyone to come in? Or, maybe, an even worse situation: you, or a loved one put up walls against God to keep Him out of your heart! Those are walls that must be destroyed because we were made to have relationships with people, but, more importantly, with God!
One more thing that I'd like to concede. Often times, the people who don't like the wall on the border don't like it because they don't think that it's fair to keep hurting, broken people out of the country. They want people to have the ability to come here and make a better life. Well, I can't say that I really disagree with that. There are a lot of hurting and broken people in this world, and I would love for people to be able to come here and have a better life! However, how can this actually be accomplished? How can we help people live better lives?

Three Options
The first option is for us to go to other countries to tell them and show them how to run a country effectively. Guide them to put forth better policies and laws, and also help them use their money wisely. A lot of people would not like this idea because they'd say that it's intrusive and rude to tell other people what to do. I don't think that we'd necessarily have to "tell people what to do", but we could show them the things that have worked for this country and then they could implement it how they saw fit.
Option number two: we bring all the hurting people in this world to the United States. How many people do you think would fit that bill? Probably at least 7.5 billion would fit that description. So we could bring over 7 billion people to live in one country, and then we could provide food, jobs, housing, and shelter for almost the entire world. If we did this, though, the system would collapse pretty shortly after I would think.
Option number three is the best option in my opinion. It involves sending people from this country to these hurting people and telling them about a better wall. A wall that is not physical. We could tell the hurting about the Fortress that David references in Psalm 18:1-3
"I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies."
YAHWEH, the God of the Bible, is David's Fortress, and He is the Fortress for all sorts of people across this world. So many people in this world care about physical walls, physical protection, when spiritual protection is so much greater!
After telling them about this Spiritual Protector Who wants to protect them, we could then tell them about some of the ways that this country has been able to develop a successful country, which was the first option we discussed.
So, Are Walls Bad?
I would answer: usually no. In the book of Nehemiah, we see Nehemiah and the Jews rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. In Nehemiah 4:6, we read, "So we built the wall. And all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work." Some might say, well, walls are bad. Walls are evil, even racist. Surely, God would not bless their work. Surely, God wouldn't let them finish this mean wall. But, if we read on in the story, not only does God allow them to build the wall, but He even blesses them and protects them all throughout the process!
So, that brings up this question, what are walls for? They are generally for protection. They are made to guard people and communities from outside threats. That doesn't sound so bad, after all, does it?
Good Walls that God Has Built
Did you know that God designed you with some walls? Yeah, He designed humans with stomach walls and intestinal walls. Guess what these walls do? Yeah, they protect! These walls have little gate-like structures in them that are supposed to let vitamins and minerals out of the gates, so that they can enter the bloodstream. Then the blood brings these good compounds to the rest of our body. The walls also keep the "bad guys": bacteria, fungi, viruses, chemicals and the like from entering the bloodstream. But when we have weak walls and gates, these bad guys do get into the bloodstream and they can start to cause a lot of damage, fast!
There is another more important wall that God puts up for us. It is a spiritual hedge of protection from the dark forces at work in this world. There are some very dark forces at play and they have a lot of power, however, their power is nothing compared to the power of our Almighty God, YAHWEH! If God were to let these evil forces "run free" and do whatever they wanted to humanity, I think that humanity would be annihilated pretty quickly. God protects us to an extent from these forces, but he allows them to work in this dark world. God especially protects His people: Christians, from these dark powers! We receive a special level of protection that the world doesn't get to enjoy.
One Day, Walls Are Bad
Let's say, that one day we would agree that wall are in fact, bad.
Our bodies decide to hold a meeting, and all the parts of the body rail at the stomach and the intestines for putting up walls. The stomach and the intestines think about it, and, yeah, maybe the walls that they put up are bad. So they decide to take down their walls for a day. I'm no doctor, or scientist, but if you stomach, or intestines decided they didn't want to have a wall for even one day, I think that you would die pretty quickly.
Next, walls are so bad that God takes down the wall that protects us from the spiritual forces of darkness in this world, and now, demons, the devil, the dark forces of evil are able to do whatever they want to mankind. I will reiterate, I don't think that we'd last very long.
Finally, no countries had walls. No countries had borders. In fact, there were no countries at all. Everybody was just one big happy family for the few seconds that we were able to live before the dark forces wiped us off the earth.
Is the Mexico-US Wall Bad?
No it is not. The wall is there for protection. We have seen what has come through the wall and has gotten into this country, and it is not good! Drugs, guns, cartel members, gangs, sex traffickers, and so much more. These sex traffickers traffic so many victims at this border.
Now, I am all for people coming into this country, but it has to be done the right way: legally. Having a wall is just part of being a country.
The Most Dangerous Wall in the History of the World
The one wall that has caused the most damage, destruction and death in the entire history of the world is the wall that people put around their heart against God! It has lead to so much turmoil. This is the wall that we must fight to tear down! For those of us that are Christians, we have to go into the world and help people tear down this wall, so that they can build a relationship with our Protector, YAHWEH!
Unfortunately, many people fight against the Mexico wall, they talk about how bad it is. A lot of these same people wouldn't say a thing about the wall that people put up against God, when that is the wall that we need to focus on tearing down if we want this world to be a better place!
Walls are for Protection
At the end of the day, most walls are good because they protect. They protect the good from the evil. They keep bad things, bad people, and bad forces out.
Thanks be to God that He has provided us with so many walls to protect us!
